Printed fabrics can be really, really tough.
Sometimes they look cute on the model, and then don’t quite work once you see them in person. Or there’s the situation of TOO MUCH ALL OVER PRINT….and when I saw that gingham was becoming a huge trend for spring, I was curious about how I would actually feel about it once it was on my body.
And I’m not gonna lie….this dress was a bit of a challenge. It’s A-line shape made it resemble a tent the second I put it on. I tried it with turquoise jewels & some wedges thinking that would sass it up….but then I felt like a little too farmer’s daughter chic…and it felt like a themed outfit. It began to frustrate me and left me wondering if maybe gingham wasn’t for me at all. But then I decided to mix it with pieces I love to live in: Stan Smith sneakers & a broken-in leather moto jacket…..and suddenly, the dress has some edge…a cool girl factor.
It’s all a lesson in remembering that just because you see a trend styled a certain way doesn’t necessarily mean that it will work for your personal style….play around with textures, layers, accessories….and enjoy the opportunity to play dress-up in your closet, yet again!
